  • Presser foot bent

Hi All. Well, of course I am in the middle of several large jobs and, long story short, my needle hit the hoop. It appears my presser foot is now bent. I have an Amaya XT. I am located in Jarrettsville, MD and need to get this resolved as soon as possible. Is this something I can fix myself? Can I remove the presser foot and straighten it, or shoudl I purchase a new presser foot? If I purchase a new one, does anyone knwo the part number (I did search melcomart and found
PRESSER FOOT, ASSEMBLY [32219] if that is correct). If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. I can be reached at [email protected] or at 443-992-6731.

    Marty,

How bent is "bent? If it is just bent forward a little bit, use a flat blade screwdriver to push back on it to straighten it. If it is bent in the off set , using a combination of screwdriver and a needlenose pliar should get you going again. Seldom have I experienced where a presser foot became so bent from a hoop strike that it couldn't be straightened without removing it from the machine.

If it is bent beyound repair, then there is the possibility other parts may also be damaged...

      Rod,
Thanks for the quick reply. It was actually bent backwards (away from the needle). I did as you suggested and bent it back forwards. It doesn't appear to be too bent but when I first straightened it and started the machine it was making a louder noise. It worked, but with a loud noise. My fear is doing more damage than just the presser foot. I am attempting to straighten it out some more. What is the proper distance from the needle? Pretty close right?

        Marty, June,...

There are two areas to look at. First the distance between the face of the presser foot and the needle. You should have approximately a good 1/8 in to 3/16 in space for clearance between them. If the presser foot is bent too far back, then it will start striking the front side of the grabber trap and make a bunch of noise. This may be what you are hearing. Check the front side of the grabber trap and see if you see shiney marks where the back side of the presser foot shaft is rubbing against the face of it. Normally there is close clearance here anyway, so check it closely for clearance also....

          Rod,
Thanks again. I did manage to get it bent back to what appears to be the correct position and I am back in business (and the clicking sound is gone).
Thanks again for your quick replies!!!
