Splitting an applique

I Would like to learn how to split an applique design to put a name in the center. Can anyone either point me to where to find this, or give me a step by step instruction with Design Shop Pro PLus? I can't figure it out and can't find instructions.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about that is on another digitizer's website. The design is split in half, moved apart some,, and a name is inserted.

If I were trying to di the designs as pictured.

I would simply re-digitize the areas.
Applique is not hard to do.

But be aware taking someone else's design and reworking it
for sale is a violation of copyright.
