Any suggestions for appliquéing a piece of painter's canvas with a 1/4" satin column in metallic thread? I'm experiencing tons of skipped stitches. Everything works fine when the appliqué is not canvas.

I've been watching this carefully, and it seems that the canvas is flagging even though I've got the foot all the way down, the backing is 3oz. cutaway hooped drum tight in a large hoop, and the canvas is tacked down all around with a 40pt. walk. Any suggestions?

I have found some fabrics that really grip the needle. Some of the upholstery stuff is that way. Take a piece of wax paper, double it, and slide it between the bottom of the hoop and the needle plate. The heat of the needle will pull the wax off the paper and may give the needle just enough slip to keep the fabric from being pulled up by the needle.
