  • create your own COLOR CHART within DS

I have created my own color chart that has only my threads in it. The color chart is a text file and if you take a good look at an existing chart (file) you can use that as a guide to create your own. The syntax must be exact on every line. I never did figure out how to do that within DS. I just did it in NotePad (no formatting). AND it is just about impossible to sort the list in any kind of reasonable order!

The trouble I had was getting it to come up as the default. DS wants to only use the ARC chart as the default. I think we figured out that this is written in the software and was not changeable. BUT the workaround is to rename that default ARC file as another name and then name your newly created file the name of that original ARC file. You just have to remember what you did so you can undo it in the future if you need to.

I must say that I find the charts NOT very important. What is important is to record in the NOTES of the embroidery file the names and numbers of the thread I actually use. This is especially important for logos and designs that are repeated over and over through the years. Customer have no idea of the names or numbers or brands of threads. They just know it is "that blue" or "the bright green" or "the color you used on the pillow you did for me two years ago". Yea, right!

We do a great deal of print outs, digital mock-ups, and keep a record book as well as the digital trail for all our clients. Just is much easier to have them see their logo's in colors that closely represent their pms colors until we actually send a sew out. We switched to Isacord after the arc was no longer, but the colors in the chart are nasty, not even close to what the real color is. A chart with truer colors just makes it easier all the way around, brand, color number, visual color reference, color sequence, notes, all done in one quick swoop!
