Applique - does the machine normally stop after the outline stitches?

We are starting to play with Applique. I purchased some designs and started sewing them out. I thought the machine was suppose to stop after the outline stitches are put down and the fabric needs cut away.

My machines are not stopping. I don't know if this is a software setting or what?

Are you adding the applique stop in the color sequence when assigning the colors?
