  • Method to help cover Question

I have heard one can use a piece of tear away backing like a person uses solvey, to help a fill cover better without adding a ton of stitches. Ex: white tear away with white fill on a black garment. Anyone in this group ever do this? Does the TA hold up after several washings? I'm thinking all the stitching would hold it in place even when wet, but would like to know your opinions. I know there are sheets of cover up you can buy, but pricey, and wondered if they made things at all a bit stiffer where used.

I really like the cover up and did not find it added any stiffness at all. My cover up is very soft. I have changed to the clear instead of trying to use colors close to thread colors because of the cost. It is cheaper for me to buy the clear in a roll. Nothing is added to the stitch out as far as color but it does prevent any fibers from showing or slipping through the stitches.

We use Solvy on velvet, but I'm always interested in other possibilities. How is the clear cover up different from Solvy?

The cover up never dissolves or deteriorates. It is always there holding down the fibers underneath. I like the clean, crisp stitch outs that can be achieved with cover up. Save all the small pieces because there are always uses for them.
