  • How many stitches

Can anyone tell me approximately how many stitches I may anticipate getting from a 5000 meter cone-Please?

Debbie, that is an impossible question to answer. It depends on the length of your stitches. I will tell you that a 5000 meter cone lasts a long time unless it is a one-color design.

I don't know if it will help because most of my designs are satin stitches with metallics, but the number I use about 7 yards per 1000 stitches. Like Sharon says it's very much an approximation, but it gives me a rough idea if I'm going to make it through a job with the thread that I have left.

If most of your designs are similar, you could use a small spool of the same type of thread and see how many stitches you get from it. This is how I came up with my number.

I researched that once before ordering the same dye lot thread for a large lace tablecloth. I found in more than one place that 1 million stitches can be used as an average. I am sure that can vary a lot based on the type and length of stitches but it did help me a lot for my order. I am about half way through one of the three tablecloths and it looks like that number is pretty close. Just to be safe I ordered 4 extra spools.
