  • Change predigitized design for a cap?

    Hi everyone!
I have been benefitting from all of your expertise for the last year - just reading the archives, but this is my first post.

Is there any way to edit an already digitized .dst design to have it stitch from the center outward (for a cap?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Probably. You can change the whole thing to wireframe and proceed from there. In the design I brought up to see how it would work, I found that one of the parts was a whole element of the design but was only the underlay. Since it was the entire element with no missing parts, I simply changed the density to .4 and added underlay and ties and then deleted all of the original parts of that part. That one element, after wireframing it, had 15 parts to it! After doing the above, it had one part and I had full control over density and underlay. So that is one way.

It really depends on the design. But change the whole original design to wireframe and go from there.

That's the way I would do it. But I have been doing digitizing for years. You being a relatively newbie might not be able to handle it. If you feel this is beyond you. just try sewing out the design as is. It might work just fine without changing anything. It just depends on the design and the hooping.

    Hope this helps.

If your going to be working your design for caps.
      when you do.
make sure you go from bottom up & center out not just center out.

I have found that most often, after changing an expanded format (such as dst) to wireframe, it distorts the elements. Curves may change to straight points, straight points to curves, thus distorting the element, which in turn can create a great deal of editing.
If you're lucky, you can just re-arrange the list of expanded elements to get certain pieces to sew first, second, etc. However, you can run into troubles that way as well. Hopefully your design will sew out nicely on the hat as is!

When I need to make a change to a design that is exp or dst I usually have better results by saving it first as a cnd format file. The cnd format gives me (for lack of a better description) a scaled down wire frame version of the design. There is a lot less 'junk' in the object list.
