  • create open mesh fill

Has anyone created an open mesh decorative fill that works well? I mean the kind that uses a walk stitch to generate something that looks similar to chain-link fencing. I've tried several things, including a bottomless box-shape and an inverted right-angle "V". They seem like they're going to work, but then there are areas where the mesh isn't complete. Any suggestions?

Try using two fills without underlays. The ins and outs are critical.

The 2 very light density fills work like a charm. I often use it under small lettering on stocking hats and heavy fleece to support the lettering. It looks just like the fencing you want to accomplish, or similar to a cross stitch, which depending on your version of DS also works nicely for the look you desire.

This is a good idea. I was thinking of something a little heavier, using, for example, a 34 point #3 bean stitch. The needle enters at each crossing point. I've seen this done, I just can't figure out how to accomplish it.
