  • Problem stitching a satin stitch logo

I just got a new contract job and they gave me an already digitized satin stitch design. It is basically 3 letters kind of merged together.

I did a pre-stitch on muslin and it looked ok. I though the stitches could have been a little more dense.

I had different kinds of materials, towel, very thin knit t-shirt, fleece hat, and cap.

I delivered the items and they called me today saying that my machine did not stitch out their design very well. It was loose but clean.
They said it was my machine and I should be able to adjust it for different materials.

I ran it manually and did adjust it according to the thickness of the item. I did not have it in auto. Should I have?

I was a little upset with their response. I got the last of the order that was shipped to me today and feel I should not do it.

Can anyone give me advice on how to handle this, adjust my machines etc.

I always thought it was a digitizing issues and designs are digitized for certain kinds of material etc.

I appreciate any advice ( and the contract pricing they gave me is very low 1-4000 stitches, $2.70 and goes up from there. Is this market???

    Thank you,
    Pam

The price your quoted is about right if your doing 25 pc orders, and 3 colors or less.

    as for the design,
If you would like I can look at it for you and see if I see a problem.

just email it if you want me to take a look.

I have Emailed you back & attached 2 files
They are not your original files.
The originals were poorly underlayed and the pathing was poor.

Now with that said I would not sew 1/2” satin columns.
use a HEAVY cutaway if they insist on the satin.

I increased the underlay to include an edge walk and to help support the WIDE satins.
I did a test sew and they sew ok. BUT AGAIN I warn against this wide of a satin.

It looks like your clients mom made this design with home software they are not native DS files.

PLEASE Don’t give them my files they are for you and if they choose to go elsewhere let them with their poor files.

Let me know if I can help further.

Run my files on auto actifeed, they run fine. as they can with the wide satins.

Someone suggested to me that using a low-density fill underlay with wide satins can help reduce the tunneling problem. I haven't tried it yet, but wondered if you had.

            Jerome.
Thank you so very much for your help and advise!
I did finish the 3 remaining items with the file you supplied and the customer was really impressed.
I told them exactly what you said about it being poorly done to begin with.
Thank you for helping me turn a possibly difficult situation into a positive one and one that may bring me more business!
You are awesome for helping me and I appreciate it very very much!!
            Thank you,
            Pam
