  • How do I embroider on puffy items

I was given a seat cushion today; the kind for a lounge chair and it is very puffy. Does anyone know the secret to doing embroidery on this? I don't want to mess it up or damage my machine. This is the first time I have done this
    Thank you!

Is there a removable top layer? I'm thinking not since you're asking for secrets on how to embroider on it.

A lounge/seat cushion upwards of 2 inches thick might be a bit much to embroidery directly on. You could offer to embroider on a piece of similar fabric, hemmed nicely and then hand stitched in part (like a flap) or completely depending on the placement. Another option would be to stitch on the wash away backing (like what they do for lace) and then hand stitch to the cushion (design needs to be suited for this). A third option would be to use vinyl and heat press (not embroidery but allows for direct to fabric customization). Just some ideas.

I would be inclined to take it apart, remove stuffing, embroider, restuff and the sew back together. Be sure you charge the customer for the time to do all of that.

How thick is the foam? If it's over 1/2" take Margarets advise.
