DMC Broder Thread Question

Hi all, I have a customer who needs a thread to match some previous work and my Madeira colors are not close. It was originally done with DMC Broder Machine Embroidery thread, but I think it's for home embroidery machines. The few places I checked only carry small spools. Can this be used on my Amaya? I haven't tried this with the thread you're inquiring about but...
One time I had to use a spool that was too small to fit over the aluminum tube that supports the cones, so I rigged up something by taking the white tip off the end of the support, then I sliced the end of a straw so that I could shove it a small way down into the tube. I taped this in place then cut the straw then length I needed to support the small spool. It worked as a temporary fix.
