  • Bobbin types, which is best?

Right now I am using cardboard sided bobbins.
Are they the best to use?

I also have the plastic sided ones, 2 boxes of them.

But was thinking about the mega core ones, for I am sometimes still having backlast on the bobbin causing false bobbin breaks.

what is everyone else using? anyones you wouldnt try?
I do have a industral bobbin winder, but no bulk thread for it.
Does anyone wind their own bobbins? Metal or plastic bobbins if you wind your own.

Sorry if I sound like I am rambling, but just looking to fine turn my machine for the best running and product output.

Carboard sided run fine. If you're bored, you can pull the sides off the carboard ones. We've used plastic sided as well. They run fine but are more expensive and generally, have less thread loaded on them. In other words, why pay more if things run the same?

Magna is a waste on the amaya. In my experience on our Big Reds, I actually got more false bobbon breaks and didn't see any change in sew quality. Besides, if actifeed is doing it's job, tension shouldn't be an issue with a properly adjusted bobbin case.

Rod and I have run tests in the field with many clients and have found NEB Bobbins to be the best. We have run the same designs using both cardboard sided and NEB and find NEB to last longer. There is no lint to get under the leaf spring of the bobbin case and we won't sew with anything else. We have been using them for 9 years and won't change. Just my two cents worth. I feel they are well worth the little bit of extra money and we seldom ever have to adjust bobbin tension.

NEB (plastic sided) work the best for me as well. They are also good for FSL because you can wind them yourself on a bobbin winder with matching thread.

The plastic sided prewound from MetroEmb also work well for me. I can't tell any difference between them and NEB. They are usually less than half the price of NEB.

I don't ever use the cardboard anymore because of the extra lint they cause. I have also had several of them that were bad and had to throw them away.

What kind of industrial bobbin winder do you have? I often would like to use the same color thread in the bobbin for lace so it would be so nice to have one.

Any industrial sewing machine would have a built-in bobbin winder for the L-Style. There is also a gadget called "The Easy Winder" which works well with practice for tensioning.

Where do you get the generic NEB bobbins you speak of?

I have been using Madeira bobbins, and the quality has gone down steadily in the last year. I will be trying a couple of the one you all mentioned.

                    To Marcelle

I will try to get a pic of it on my facebook page for you to see. I have the interchangeable foot that allows me to do L's and M's
It only takes maybe 7 - 10 secs to do a bobbin in it.

The motor in it is not the orginal one, it fried a year ago, so I dug in my parts boxes and found a old motor that works in it, Not as fast as the orginal one, but it gets the job done......

Great! I would like to see it. I don't have a commercial sewing machine to wind a bobbin. None of my home machines will wind a bobbin that will run on the Amaya.

I wish MetroEmb would offer plastic side bobbins in colors.
