  • Stitching on Heavy Canvas

Looking for advice/suggestions for stitching on heavy canvas. Having trouble producing a crisp clean edge with lettering. Using a 75/11 sharp needle; zig-zag underlay. Should the underlay be set to edgewalk? It seams as though everytime I use edgewalk, it shows somewhere.

    Thanks all!

Hi jane. I do a lot of work on canvas. I usually find it's heavy, but the threads are large and move easily, so it's hard to keep the edge crisp. I use Vilene, a paper-like wash away on the top, and a layer of heavy cutaway or two layers of mid to light weight, on the bottom, and no edgewalk. If you don't have Vilene, two layers of solvy should do the trick.

    HTH,

      Judy,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply... I don't have Vilene, but I'll give 2 layers of solvy a try.

I would have suggested one or 2 layers of a hvy "wet laid" dense non directional tearaway about 1.8 ozs ea If the "solvy" and "vilene" don't work Try this -Pls keep is advised

        Thanks
