How to use the Group names

Since there was no response to my group names question...Does that mean that it is not worth the time and therefore no one uses it? I was just wondering and have tried to figure it out via trial and error. I have three orders for same design but with different names. 54 jackets - 22 jackets, and 21 shirts. If it is a time saver (which it looks like it could be, or at the least make it easier), I would like to use it.

Any help would be much appreceiated. Thank You

I've only used the group names feature once or twice, but found it to be a great time saver. Took some time to figure out, but really helped. It's been a while, so I can't think of anything useful to tell you at the moment. I'm sure others will chime in. Good luck!

Unless you really have all your ducks in a row and are familiar with its use, using the Group Names can get you into trouble.

The problem I see with the group name thing is that you better know what name goes on what shirt as to size and color, ie, Joe, is small and red, John is XL and green, but you have another John and his is black, Janie is youth XS and is pink, etc, etc....If you have all these lined up to where you don't have to keep double and tripple checking as the next name comes up then go for it.

I prefer to just create the name list in a DS folder and load the names to AOS to the Design Que. In AOS select Design Que, select the name you want, load it, and sew it on the correct garment. There is a lot less chance for an error to happen this way.

If all the garments were the same color,and the same size then group names may be a time saver. You could try to sort them in this manner, but I prefer to use the Design Que. Select a name (John) from AOS Design Que, look at my order list, John is XL green, hoop this shirt and sew it.

Of course you can sort your garments by size, or anyway you choose an order to sew them in...I have found this to be just as fast a way to get-er-done as error free as possible. Group Names is just another tool to apply in specific cases that makes it convienent to use it.

This is probably why you haven't gotten an immediate response, too many varibles to hash over....

Thank you for your responses. I am constantly amazed at the helpfulness of everyone on this forum especially the veterns. Rod you are amazing in that you spend alot of time helping rookies like myself. I just read a post where you wrote about 8 paragraphs talking about machines and their attributes. You did this unselfishly all so this man could make an informed decision as to what machine to buy. Awesome!

In respect to the group names question Jerome put me on the right track on how to specifically set up the application. I am grateful for his patience, knowledge, plus the willingness to share. Thank You Jerome!

When I use group names I usually assign the name color to a needle with no thread but the next needle has the thread color for the name so I don't have to use a hold/pause/stop.

If using in conjunction wi a design, I would have the name stitch first, then the design. Because the needle would not have thread, the thread sensor would stop the machine; sometimes I stop the machine and change the needle before it gets that far but if I don't, no harm is done as there is no thread. The trick I use is to use applique command at the end of the color order.Last thing in the list.

It then stops after the name and waits for you to change garments.
hit start and it stitches the design and then the next name and stops. Or just the next name if your not using a design.

For me "pause" if used anywhere in the color order pauses after every color. I hate that.

Has anyone tried to use HOLD before the first color? I think that is what I do. Haven't used that for awhile, so would have to refer to my notes.

I use hold all the time. Juli is right, it only stops before the next color. Pause inserts a stop before the next color and all color changes thereafter. I wish they had named them something to make this clearer.
