  • Making my own hoop grids - where to get 1/2" ruled clear plastic sheet?

My wife has decided plastic grids like we have on the old machines is a must have. So I am on the hunt for 1/2" ruled clear plastic sheet.

Any ideas where to get it or is someone making this for Amayas?

You might check out the local dept. store (walmart)
and look for contact paper. we have some the has grid lines on it.they may not be exactly the right size but it will adhere to most anything and give you good reference lines quickly, and you can also clean it and quickly replace it if need be, for dirt cheap.
    Just a thought.

I would like something very clear and solid enough it works well. It is a small gadget but it saves a lot of money on some of the backpacks we do.

Are you using the grid sheet for design alignment?

If so you should know that withthe XTS you can laser align and you Can get away with some VERY crooked hooping jobs.

It may be my favorite feature after actifeed.

try it move your hoop to a ref point on the left side of your hoop (ie: the top of a pocket or stripe)
then hit the laser & the left arrow
then move it to the right side using the hoop and arrow keys as before and hit the laser left again. then hit the laser&& bullseye the design will adlust and center on the base line you just made. then you can move the hoop up the distance you need and whalla!! perfect possitioning.

for the next garment just repeat you don't need to reload the design. The machine will just keep repositioning.

I have a Big Red, so no laser alignment for me. Ron, I'm unclear on how you use the contact paper. Do you adhere it directly to the garment - sounds a bit scary? Or have you stuck it to some kind of plastic sheet cut to fit your hoop that you can reuse? I drew x /y axis lines on a piece of acetate (like you use for overhead projectors) cut to fit my hoop, but I'm not always successful in getting it lined up with the x/y of the hoop. Any suggestions?

All I can say right now is Wow! We embroider on these stephen joseph backpacks and you have to really have precise right to left centering or it is very noticible. This feature is great!

                  Maybe I misunderstood.
we actually stick to the hoops and arms so we can align garments and straighten them in the hoop.
Still kind of an eyeball thing but this way you have many parallel lines close to the garment that we can use for alignment.
I'm honestly not sure now how it was being referred to at first, they lost me shortly after the post after mine.

KOWABUNGA! Need to have my trainer put that in her list of things to teach. Nice feature.

I do a lot of dry fit textured patterns with horizontal lines in the fabric and will be using this a lot.
