I'd like a "go to" fill stitch and/or settings to use when columns in large size text are too wide to use a satin stitch. I'd like that smooth appearance if possible.
Is there such an animal??
A very good middle of the road fill is the # 4. Set this at a fill density of 3.8 to 4ish, with a stitch length of 38 or so. Use a # 1 TI and TO. Set the stitch angle at whatever you wish, but if a satin stitch border is going around it, try a 45 degree angle.....
Rod's suggestion is exactly the one I also found through trial and error. I always use it when I don't want any texture in a fill regardless of size or shape - its the smoothest one, as far as I can see .
oops Tricia, I went back and looked at some of my designs and realized that my fallback smooth fill is #5 with a density of 3.0-3.5 and a stitch length of 60. The one issue with this fill is that, over very large areas, the 60 stitch length can cause some puckering if plenty of backing isn't provided. If you're just using it on wide columns with adequate backing it shouldn't be a problem. Mama Kass
