When I have a letter M, for instance, and use the Auto Borders, the deep v's need the corners to be changed. I click on corners and select the top one, but nothing changes. So, this weekend, when doing three big designs on Welcome mats where people will be walking on them, it was important to not have a thick buildup of thread. So I tried to fix those pesky corners.

I finally found that if I set the "Corners" feature to the top selection, I then had to go in and delete the "stitch directions" right at the corners that I wanted to fix.. Once I deleted both direction lines (one on each side), that solved the problem.

Do you think this is a glitch in V9? And where do we report these?

    Juli,

No, it is not a glitch. Just because you are using the cornering tool doesn't mean that it is going to "automatically" do every corner, every time without tweaking as you did.

For long pointy corners, I prefer the "caps", other places I use what looks the best between miter and caps. But I am always moving wireframe points around(stitch direction lines in columns) or deleting them to get the miter or cap to take......falls into one of those, "that's just the way it is" catagories.

Now why don't I like that answer? IMO, the corners function should fix the corners. That is the only thing it does. Nope, don't like your answer at all.

        Juli,

It wasn't too long ago that trimmers on an embroidery machine were considered "luxeries" not necessities. I for one would not want to be without them now.

        It is easy for us to become spoiled with the bells and whistles of the computer age. The "Cornering Tool" is one of those cute little tools that "Allows" us the opportunity to be able to "fix" the corner. It won't necessarily be the good sport you want it to be and do it all for you. You have to coax it a bit now and then, say pretty please, tease,twease, tickle and tweak to get it to cooperate sometimes.... ;-}}

Sometimes, I find it works if you change the singleline stitch from 15-20, down to 5-10, then just beef them up using the pull comp. Just an idea to try. It doesnt work for all situations but it works.

I didn't even know you could delete the "stitch direction"...when I read some of these responses, I realize how much I don't know...thanks so much for the new info. I'll need to fiddle around w/some of these settings! Is this just trial and error from now on out or are there things I can read or add'l classes to take (other than the Melco start up class I took 3 years ago) When Hugo comes to my house I always get useful information from him, as I ask lots of questions...I'm sure I'm not using all of the features offered to my advantage...

When Juli was talking about "deleting" stitch direction, that was not a literal term. You are not deleting stitch direction , per sae, but you are deleting wireframe connectors in a satin stitch column in her example. The wireframe connectors have a wireframe point on both sides of the column. Moving one of these points will change the direction of the stitch or lean it, would be a better term, for the section of the column it controls. These wireframe connectors can be deleted or more added at will. Deleting them, if the connector is not spanning at right angles to the column, will change the directon of the stitch within the section it controlled.

Is that deleting "stitch direction"? No, it may change stitch direction, but does not delete it. Are you deleting "stitch direcion" lines, no, only the wireframe connectors that control a section of the column that may be used to control the amount of "lean" or direction of the stitch across the column in a specific section of the column.

But I do access these lines - whatever they are - by clicking on the "Stitch Direction" icon on the left. Otherwise they are not available. That is why I think they are stitch direction lines.

                  Juli,

I understand your thought process. The "Stitch Direction" icon is a "Stitch Direction Editing" tool.

In Ver 9 for example, when creating a "Tradional Method" complex fill, it takes you through the steps of , first creating the shape, option of cutting holes, entry & exit points, and then the "stitch direction" input. The fill is not complete until the stitch direction is there.

In the case of a complex column, the stitch directon is dictated by where you input the "connectors" or wireframe points as you are digitizing. If you wish to "edit" these points, you select the "Stitch Editing Tool" and add or delete or move one of the connectors to change the direction of the stitch within the column.

By "deleting" a wireframe point in a complex column, the stitch direction may be altered within that section those particular points control, but a stitch direction still exists.

If you delete stitch directon in a fill, the fill cannot exist. If you delete stitch direction in a column, the column cannot exist.
