  • Fine Fabric_No Backing - Got Any Tips?

I'd sincerely appreciate any advice all you pros can give on embroidering these.
Handkerchiefs with small lettering. Right now I'm using Heat Away Topper as a Backing. The fabric is practically see through so nothing can show in the end. Tear Away, Wash Away, Etc. Backing not an option because the starching, pressing and packing afterward takes too much time to make a profit)
They run great one day, the next day I get get through away with out thread breaks on the same exact lettering.
PLEASE HELP ME OUT OF MY NEEDLE BREAKING, THREAD FRAYING WORLD!!!

If they are not stretchy, I've always used cap backing (yes). But I think the problem might lie somewhere else. I would start by doing a "bottom center" under head timing & see if (a brand new) needle hits the EXACT center of the needle plate & adjust as necessary & go from there if the problem persisted.

How about wash-away, clear Solvy if the heat-away is causing you problems.

        Thanks.
Tested Bottom Center - looks fine.

I bought the Melco after I saw a demo of a flower (Dakota) on organza material with no backing at all. It ran beautiful! ..even with metallic thread. So I know it can be done. I'm close with my settings but not as good yet. Then of course it will run the design 5 times, then screw up the next 5 so that is not helping either. More Suggestions would really help -- THANKS!

We had to do a hanky for a cousin's wife...this was the first time we had done one and it was a very special hanky...she used it at her son's wedding and her father's funeral...I was so scared we would mess it up...we tried on one of Don's old ones and the backing was not the right type...we tried tear away...then I came up with the idea of using a Solvy and it turned out great...not sure if this will work for you or not but the lettering on this was very small and it turned out great...
          Until next time...

I did 25 fine hankys for a funeral and used two layers of solvy on the bottom. My small lettering however had a density of 8. That may help.
