I am stitching a design that stitches out really well, but the bobbin thread (white) is showing through on the lettering. What causes this and how can I fix it?
For the most part for me It's usually bunches of dust and lint accumulate in the bobbin I take a business card to clean it out and blow the bobbin out if that don't work check the tension on the bobbin.
This is a common problem on small lettering- bobbin tension must be a little tighter, and a clean bobbin case is vital- else the tension will vary throughout the stitching process.
We were told way back to turn 'short stitches' OFF on all small lettering, gave a cleaner letter. Also we found small detail, small letters come out cleaner with magnetic bobbins.

Don't forget that there are tools to help this process also....In Settings, Threadfeed, column feed, run/fill speed and auto lower limit for material thickness, are just some of the things that you can learn to use in OS..
In Design Shop, densities, minimum column width, pull compensations on both the pecentage and X,Y side are critical to become familiar with.
Just to type in a font is just the start...the code sheets can give you some guidelines to go by with pre-digitized fonts, but with the True Types, you are on your own. A lot of the True Types are just useless because of all the editing that will be necessary to make them sewable....faster to just digitize them manually.
Usually bobbin thread showing up in small columns is because the bobbin column may be a bit too wide and the top thread sewing a bit too tight allowing the top thread to pull the bobbin thread around the edges of the column and up to where the bobbin then sews. That is the over simplfied version....
Some folks will use colored bobbins for this reason. That way they don't have to worry if the bobbin thread does show here and there as it will be the same color as the top thread. Being most writing is done with black or navy , certainly not all, but a lot of it, is why so many black bobbins are sold. There are other reasons, but that is one of them.
Learning to use the tools will most certainly help in OS and DS and is always the better way....
Thank you guys! I ended up using a black bobbin and the problem was gone, but I do need to follow your advice, Rod, and make myself aware of all the factors that go into lettering! I appreciate your time in giving that information to me!!!
Colored bobbins are cheating & we know it, yet I do understand that we must produce to get paid. That out of the way; you (and myself) can cheat for a while- but, then, we must address the issue- so we KnoW what to do the next time this opportunity for improvement presents itself.
