OKay I am struggling with trying to make my daughters name in an applique similar to this link above. I want the letters to all overlap each other.

My question is this- how do I get it to do all the tack down stitches first and then come back and get it to do all of the satin cover stitch at the end? Am I going about this the right way? I thought I was doing it right by clicking the applique tool and tracing out her name and then hitting enter at the end to show the cover stitches. I know this is kinda hard to explain over a post. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!!

    Hey Liz,
I work with applique all the time and I never use the automatic applique tool that comes with the Melco software. I rather digitize it all first the satin stitch, then I duplicate it and change the elment type for tackle, and so on. Try it, It hink you will get better results.

I always do the running tack down first. You need to do one outline first, this will be the outline for the fabric, then duplicate that the second is your fabric tack down, then duplicate that one and change it to satin stitching. I don't use my auto applique either. I have made the cutest in the hoop applique nurse doll that I offer for free on Sewing Forum by allbrands under jacosandy. Many of my free designs are there.

WOW! Thanks you two! That makes perfect sense. Maybe it was just a stressful day yesterday and I was not able to think outside the box like I usually do! I just thought that type of applique would be so cute for my daughters name, sports teams, etc. BUt I knew I could do my own v. buying it. PLus I have a different font idea. Thanks again!

Hey Sandy, I would love to one day figure out how to digitize ITH projects too! There are just so many things on my one day to do list lol.

          Liz,
The design was actually a request from Australia, I do alot of free digitizing, each project is forcing me to teach myself something new. I also did a ITH of a tulip pencil topper and the woman never came back and thanked me so she will get no more from me. My friends are telling me to get a web site.

Free to join and lots of designs and they have a design request but will not do logo's or school sports teams. Also a good place for information. Sandy in costa rica
