  • Help - Jacket back

I'm doing a 11 X 7 design on the back of a Harrington jacket. Using cutaway stabilizer that I have sprayed 505 onto and hooped in the 11 X 14 wooden hoop. It 109,000 stitches. The actual design sews out beautiful but the outlines are always off. When I did a test sew on cutaway stabalizer it sewed out beautiful.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm even willing to send the design to someone to have them look at it.

    Thanks,
    Jackie

I bet you don't want to hear this but.
If it stitched out well on the backing alone then. the issue is either your hooping.
which may not be secure enough or too loose.
are you going through lining and all or have you opened it up and only stitching on one layer?
I have in the past stitched the out line first the color of the garment then reset and ran the design and that kept everything together and it had fewer issues.

also it could be your jacket is draging or pinching and keeping the pantagraph from moving properly.

    just some thoughs

Jackie, with a design with that many stitches you are bound to have a bit of "pull" on the fabric. I'm not sure I would ever test a design that large on stabilizer but would stitch it on fabric with the same type of stabilizer you will be using on the jacket. To correct this, you need to edit the design pulling the stitches out to the outline and maybe just a hair past----the outline is where it should be so don't move it in.

For all the hassles, it is well worth the time to find a local seamstress that will open up the bottom hem, give it to you to slide your hoops up inside and embroider, then take it back to resew the hems. We do that on any Carhartt when we can't convince the customer to go with Sanmar jackets.
Then your hooping is much easier, jacket is easier to line up, and you haven't destroyed any of the jacket's insulation value by matting down the liner.
Our seamstress only charges $5 to resew a bottom hem, I use a seam ripper to pull out the threading. But most of the time we convince them to go with Sanmar jackets with the 'port pockets', hidden zippers to get you inside the jacket.
