• Static reduction with dryer sheets

Hey all. I did a search and everyone says to dust with dryer sheets but no one says how.

This may sound dumb, but I was wondering what are the most effective place to dust for lowering static. With the winter finally kicking in here in Georgia it has gotten really dry and I am shocking the crap out of myself!

So any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

#1...put in a humidifier in the room with your Amaya and get it up to 40% or so...that also helps keep thread fresh.
#2...get an electrician to make a 'dummy' wire plug-all you need is a 3 prong plug and only the GROUND WIRE hooked up. Run the wire to any bolt on the METAL housing of the Amaya (look around on the back) loosen up a screw or bolt, wrap the ground wire on it, tighten it back up and plug in to your regular 'grounded outlet' on the wall, not your power back up unit. This grounds the metal housing better than anything. I have this on my vinyl cutter out back-static was real bad, enough to make the computer board 'in' the cutter go nuts. Also had to do it when I used to have a semi auto printer for posters and coroplast signs. Static was enough to knock you on your butt. There are also 'static proof' floor mats you get in Staples, Office Depot, etc.-that are good for your feet and prevent static but I haven't used them.
As for dryer sheets...haven't tried it but I've heard about it. Also know jeepers I run with that tuck them in their hats to keep mosquitoes away...so I don't know...it's a weird world out here!

LOL Thanks for the ideas! I love it. I just thought about a humidifier and I think I might let my steamer run in here today till I can get one! I will look into the ground wire too. That's smart and will do the same for my vinyl cutter as well. Thanks again.

I have a spray bottle with water and a little fabric softener in it...I only sray the carpet around the machine since it is in a extra bedroom right now...I can do this over my house and no more static when walking in your sock feet either...when we get our sewing room built is won't have carpet so if this becomes a problem then I will try other ways suggested...you don't have to really wet the floor just spray a little around and it has helped us with the static...have a great day and until next time...

Hi Liz. I do the dryer sheet thing as I live in a place that is humid -- except when it freezes!

While the machine is running, I hold the sheet against the acti-feed roller for about ten seconds.

And I rub the dryer sheet against the area in the hoop after it is hooped and before I start sewing. I do this top and bottom. It helps a LOT.
