  • Youth size baseball caps on Amaya XT

Does anyone have experience doing embroidery on youth size baseball caps. I tried a few and did not get good results. I called Melco and was told by our amaya trainer that the machines cannot do youth size caps. I find this hard to believe but I am so new to this that I don't know. Any suggestions?

You can do youth size caps, however the size of the design will be limited. Because the cap is smaller the machine will try to push the cap off of the frame if the design is too tall.

So what would be the maximum design size for a youth cap? This is important because we have a pending order and I don't want to accept it if it's not something we can do successfully. Thanks for any and all help you can offer.

I would suggest that you get a few of the youth caps and do a trace to see how big you can go. We try to keep adult caps under two inches. The few kids caps that we have used were unstructured and the design measured 1.7 inches high and 3.79 inches wide. I would definately not go any taller that 1.7 inches.

Yes, it's possible - I do youth caps often and do not have any problems (structured and unstructured). I usually make my design about 1.75" high (max)on youth baseball caps and get as close as possible to the bill. I agree with Margaret - make sure you trace everytime to see that the machine isn't going to push the cap off. Good luck.

Before you give up and lose the customer, ask here for someone else close to you that would subcontract and do the hats, if you can make a deal then you save a customer and also do some 'networking' and spread the business around our little community here.
And last month, we did do some youth caps (Otto cap) and had no trouble-just have remember the hooping is a little tricky-the seams you normally line up under the 'teeth' on the CCF hoop won't move that far over. Smaller design, ran great!

Thanks so much for all the help. We have the XT and use the WACF. Is there a difference on how to hoop. We don't have the CCF hoop. Is there an advantage to getting one or two CCF cap frames? Hooping hats is such a hassle and wondered if the CCF was easier and also compatible.

Okay, I'll start the fight on this one...LOL...we have never successfully used the WACF frame-even though that was what we learned on in first class...we got so sick of them we got rid of all but 1 (and still have never used that one) and collected more CCF frames. Just seems to work better for us and holds the face panel where it belongs. There is a big difference in how they hoop.
Still cannot get any stitching within 1" of the brim though...and never been able to sew on 'visor' fronts-even did try to hoop one with the WACF and ended up with less than 1/2" of space to sew...so a case of them for 1 group has been sitting for 3 years undone...would happily send them to someone that could sew 1" letters on them!

Now, I know there will be several people posting how great the WACF hoops are and all that... but I could just never get it to work right! And all that hassle with the rubber strip behind it...

With the WACF I have always been able to get within 1/2" of the bill with no problem.
We have never done youth Caps but I see no reason
why they would be any diff.

I also have neve had a cap fall out of the WACF.
I have only been at this with the Amaya Since July 2008. But we have Done hundreds of hats with no problem.

No fighting intended just have never had the trouble others have had.

I did weld up a cap hooping station that hold tension on the back while hooping.

and I use two small "strong disc magnets to hold the backing in place on the frame when hooping.
they are great I can use just the amount of backing I need.

                    What rubber strip??
                    I have no rubber strip.
                    Am I missing something??
