applique

I need some help with applique. When I send it over to OS (DSver9), and I go to selects the colors, I see applique, along with the choices of colors. Am I supposed to select applique?
Also, when I set up a name to applique, is ther a way to do all the walk stitches first on all the letters and then the tackdowns?

The applique button is used to instruct the machine do a hoop-out and wait. This allows you place the applique piece without having to remove the hoop from the machine. Just press the green button to continue sewing.
As for your other question, I'm not real familiar with DS so be forewarned! I THINK you digitize the letter applique, then right click on the applique in the project tree and select operations>convert object to wireframe. This breaks the applique objects apart. Then you can select and move the outlines into order so that they sew first.
