WACF question

So I am going to be doing some hats probably tomorrow using the WACF frames and wanted to make sure if I have my hoop detection off and my design is a hair or two over the lines on the screen and if I trace the design on the hat and it fits I should be ok, correct?

I know I should know the answer to this but want to double check just to make sure as I don't want to spend another $450 dollars to get a tech out here..

Okay, now I'm curious..........why would you turn your hoop detection off? I LOVE hoop detection. It is an anti-Amaya-hurting-itself device. BIG money saver. Turn off bobbin detection, sure! Hoop detection? Not me!

I would be very careful about turning off the hoop detection. Also get that design inside the lines not over. Plan on tracing several times and if it pulls move the hat or make the design smaller. We usually make the design no larger than 1.9 inches and only inch it up a bit at a time. Be careful

My max for hats is 2.5" tall. Taller than that and there is nothing but troubles. And it depends on the hat. The more lower profile it is, the shorter the design has to be.

You are courting trouble with the hoop limits off especially when your design goes over the lines. The limit toward the brim is just about the max it can go safely. So be very careful.

Honestly, I have been running with my hoop detection off for a long time now and never had a problem because I have gotten in the habit to trace everything I do, even if I am doing the same design over and over.

Hoop detection has been a real lifesaver for us...everyonce in awhile we might move a hoop to
check something, make it easier to take off an item-whatever. Forget to move it back...start the next one and 'wham'...you are in trouble!
Leaving hoop detect 'on' and doing a trace for each and every item...we've caught it out of center many times!

Hoop limits is definitly something to be concerned about, maybe even more so with caps.

Watching the trace and lazer on a cap doesn't give you the "real" pickure of where the needle/design is going to sew. The different style caps and the amount of poofy/sloppy/floppiness, for lack of better words, between the sewing arm and the cap will give you some real visual illusions using the lazer. This same logic would apply to very thick garments such as Carhart jackets, blankets, thick sweaters, bags and various other items...

If you push a line of lettering too close to the bill of the cap...past the sewing limits....quality will suffer more rapidly than with elements of a design that is too tall and outside the sewing limits of the hoop. This is not to mention needle breakage, which can cause additional grief by scarring the rotary hook and or retaining support finger, etc....or...needle bar strike on a hoop or cap frame that could break the reciprocator jaws and/or connecting rod and/or bend a needle bar....

Do I run with out hoop limits on at times, yes, but when done with a "special project", I always re-enable the hoop limits.

This hoop detection system on the Amaya has been a sore spot with me. I have an EMT-10T. I can sew a design using a 5.6" hoop, with plenty of room around the sewing field. Yet I put that same design on the Amaya, and it gives me a hoop limit message. I have never turned the hoop limit detector off, but maybe I will for these types of situations. I always trace anyway. I welcome your comments and certainly learn a lot from this group.
