  • Folding Nylon chairs

I'm doing 75 nylon seats for awards, embroidering the backs with quite a lot of text. My problem is the thread breaks. I have adjusted the height of the presser foot (several times on the same chair back), the thread feed, changed needles, etc.
I am using the large slim line frame and no backing. The seats have some padding and some fullness in the material so it's like sewing on hills and valleys. Anyone have tips to share?

I always take the padding out of the backs, embroidery and then sew back up. That way you see no thread from the other side.
If you are sewing through some padding on the backs that may be your thread break problem.

If these are from Picnic Time you can order the Chair Backs with zippers!

These have been furnished by the fair. They have mesh inserts, taped seams and no zippers. No way I am going to try taking them apart. The ones with zippers sound great! Any more suggestions? Thread breaks every two letters. Everything is oiled, new needles, acti-feed is off because it goes nuts. Quite a bit of waxy residue that needs removing every seat.

Have you tried a larger needle, maybe an 80/12 Sharp......

Thank you for your help. One sews well, the next does not. Just have to get through it, I guess.

Debbie ... what hoop do you use for the zippered chair backs from Picnic Time? I do a lot of chairs, and like Wayne, I take the padding out of the chair and sew it all back up.

              Thanks,
              Jo-Anne
