It seems that when I look at the back of whatever I embroider, there's not much bobbin thread. What am I doing wrong? I believe the back of the design and/or text is supposed to show more bobbin thread than thread color.
I would say you need to adjust the tension of your bobbin case.
Do a search and see if you can find the instructions on how to do the bobbin tension test as I can't remember how far it is suppose to drop...
With the Auto-feed you will tend to see less bobbin. If you do not see any, especially on columns wider than 2 - 4mm, loosen the bobbin very slightly. Sew a FOX test and look again. You should see some, but not neccesarily 1/3 split. If you notice it coming to the front, you've gone too far. Also note that as your bobbin getts to the end there will be less tension.... grab a fresh one
Ian's advice is dead on, you will see less bobbin thread if you are using autofeed and your bobbin is too tight. Especially when running at or above 1200 spm. You want to see the bobbin thread going back and forth on the back of your columns. If the bobbin thread is straight the stitches aren't locking correctly.
Amaya machines in general use less bobbin tension than other embroidery machines. Normally bobbin tension is measured by how much it drops when you hold the thread and give a little "bob" or "jerk". It's something you get a feel for. Other machines run best with 1-2" drop. I've run a wide range on the Amaya; from a hard jerk to get 1" of drop, to no tension at all on the bobbin.
My best results are using higher bobbin tension on caps, 2" drop, autofeed, 900-1000 spm.
On flats I use less bobbin tension, 4-6" drop, standard feed, 1100-1200 spm. The critical thing is the feed setting. Again something you get a feel for.
For speeds above 1250 spm I add some bobbin tension, back to about 2-3" drop, and standard feed.
These are general suggestions and vary depending on speed, material, hoop, thread, etc...
We have the problem of bobbin thread showing thru a little when using black thread. It is just here and there. when we run on auto we get more bobbin on the back then other people have. What serttings do you use in the thread feed section?
