  • constant thread breaks

I have changed all the needles thinking they were causing the thread breaks. I am still getting constant breaks. I rethread and start again. Get about 15 stitches and it breaks again.

I have stitched this same design on my other brand machines w/ no problem. I am doing burp diapers and have on 3 for the material type. Is not correct? I couldn't decide what else would be like a diaper w/ ply center.

    Dear Debbie,
Just going to thow out some things. What kind of thread are you using? If it is rayon that could be the problem. I had a customer who changed thread and it solved the issue.
Check the pressure foot. If the thread is snapping put the pressure foot up. If it is shredding put the foot down. If you have V9 or V7 you might adust the thread feed tab under settings, thread feed. Lower limit and material thickness is listed. Thickness could go up under this tab. You could also try to change from actifeed to standard of the other way around. That is only in V9 or V7. Hope one of these things helps.

Your needle plate may have a burr or is not centered properly. Loosen the needle plate screws and lower the head. Center the needle by moving the plate by hand and tighten the screws when centered. Check your thread feed - high enough? Also check your bobbin. The bobbin thread may have come out of it's case. You may have to loosen the bobbin a bit too. Do the drop test and have it drop 6 inches or so. Compensate tension by lessening the acti feed.
      Hope that does it!

I am using polyester ARC thread. I will have to look into the things both of you have suggested. Bobbin thread seems to be ok. it is having thread breaks on all needles. Not isolated to a certain needle.

          Dear Debbie,
That tells us that it isn't the needles, thread. It is frustrating but once you go thorough the steps and eliminate one thing at a time it will become easier. Take care

It doesn't seem like anyone's addressed this but if your sewing a diaper on the non -auto setting. 3 is very low, we would use 3 on a T-shirt with one layer of backing. on a thick Diaper I would use around a 7 or 8 to start and then adjust after that. Watch for looping, if it does then lower the number, if you see bobbin thread or stitches break and are really tight go up. The number seems (in my opinion) to be more of a suggestion than an actual real number that means the same for us all. It has a lot to do with the material your sewing on, and the bobbin tension and so on, but it is a good place to start.

            Good Luck

              Debbie,

Will the design sew on other fabric? If the answer is yes, try going back to the auto setting and set the lower limit to 7 or 8 and look for the things Ron suggested. I have found that the suto setting will find the correct thickness but it may take a few stitches. If my lower limit is too low for thick fabric it almost always breaks thread within the first few stitches. Trust the Auto setting and just raise your lower limit. The only time I use standard is when I am doing 3D.

Ok, I have changed the Needles, changed the thread, and even the design which is a one color design right now. No matter what needle I use the thread is breaking. It is not the design. I have sewn in on my other machines w/no problem. What is it. I didn't have this problem a few weeks ago. Now nothing but problems. Can't stitch a thing.
