  • Twill Stitch files

For all of you with roland cutters that use them for twill, how do you get your sew files? What process do you go through? I am fishing for information and depending on what kind of responses I get I may have a solution for you to make things much easier.

Funny you should ask! I just bought a cutter, not a Roland, but it is not going to give me a sew file. So, I am very interested in the whole subject.

      Hey Guys:

I have two documents from users I need to upload - you just reminded me. I don't know how well they work but will post them in a bit.

I got a Smart Cut 24" from DAS and am going to have my little Mini computer hooked up to it. Only trouble is that it doesn't have a CD drive and I'm having troubles loading the software and setting the driver. Just lost another day. Living in Paradise has its drawbacks. I got it to do Bling. If I can get it going. It will cut twill for sure, but I am going to experiment with reg fabric to do applique pieces. So. I am a little busy with that.

But I have been so SO frustrated. I am trying to sew out reg old t-shirts with a design that I have sewed 100s of times and am getting thread breaks galore! And it miss-trimmed this morning and snapped a needle. I just add it it to my collection. I keep changing the settings but just can't get it right. So frustrating. I spend all my time threading needles. When what I really want to do is play with my new equipment. There just ain't no justice in the world.

So I am giving up for the day and go get myself a bunch of grapes and read my book.

              Juli -

You can cut actual fabric in there? Are you sure you don't have to use fabric on a substrate such as Pressure Sensative Twill? Most digital cutters have to have the fabric on a media to run them thru a roller cutter - or is yours a flatbed?

Exactly! It will have to have something under it and it may not work at all. I didn't get it to do that, but if I can actually get it to cut fabric, then that will be a plus. But, honestly, I'm not too hopeful. But I will fool around with it.

And no, it is not a flatbed. But the Iline is just too expensive. It'll jut have to wait until I make my millions with this one. Yea! Right!

                    Juli`

If you need help let me know as I love doing bling with my cutter and just ordered a bunch of vinyl to do t's with as well. I have my fabric here and I went and bought some heat bond lite to put on the back of the fabric to see if I can cut it on the cutter that way.
Just have been to busy with embroidery and all the bling orders to mess with the applique stuff I want to do...
Also, there is a new yahoo group for the stone stencil system if you need help not to many people on it yet as it is a new group but it is growing...
                    Have a great time reading...

I just love how these topics get off on the wrong track.

John, thanks for the video that shows the hard way to create a stitch file for twill. Even a fast digitizer is going to take 20-30 minutes creating that one.

If I can get some folks to tell me what kind of files they can output from their cutter software (roland or not) I may be able to offer an inexpensive and fast alternative to them digitizing it themselves or paying Stahls $38.00 for a sew disc.

Please try to stay on the topic. I know it's hard since we are such a social group.

                      Thanks

                        Steve:

The Roland Cut Studio program can only output in it's native file format which is .cst - it can import from Illustrator or Corel Draw however and actually has plug-ins for both programs to make it easy to create the outlines required to do so.

BTW, this is a subject that has bugged me for years - that there isn't a really easy way to do this, except maybe buying the TwillStitch Pro software for about $800 bones...

                            John,

Do you have a Roland or an Ioline? If I have the Corel or Illustrator file I can do the stitch file in about 2 minutes, 10 minutes for a complex one. e-mail me off the list and we can discuss it.

                            Thanks,

                            Steve I.
