  • 3D Foam Revisited

I would like to thank everyone for there input, now i'm trying to figure out something else. I'm ok with the digitizing part, now after the stitching is done and the foam torn off, there are little pieces of foam sticking out. Is there anyway to prevent this from happening, or is there anyway to get rid of them. It looks ok, but not as professional as I would like. Please help.Someone brought me in a sample from another shop, and you can't see anything sticking out, it was as if the foam was cut to fit underneath the stitch work.

The use of a very hot heat gun works and I have even seen a lighter used, but be very, very careful not to scorch or burn the garment! It has to be a very fast pass of the heat and the foam will melt and hide under the stitches. Again, be very fast and careful!

Sorry Ricky, I have not purchased one but Rod has and I think he got one at Sears or a hardware store. They look similar to a ladies hair blow dryer but get much hotter. I don't know if WalMart would have them or possibly some paint stores.

Home Depot, Lowes - etc. You don't need to get the most powerful one... you might even be able to get away with a hair blow dryer. Depends on how much heat it throws.

                Craft stores have them too.
                Especially in the scrapbooking areas.
They use heat guns in their craft.

The heavy duty ones are sold as 'paint remover gun'.
I have several different ones-the best is one with a flat 'back' to it, so you can sit it down with the nozzle pointing straight up-instead of setting it down and burning something. That one gets used to shrink wrap small items at our retail store-you can just hold the item above the gun and spin it around. What you want to look for is one with more than one heat/air position (low, medium, high) or at least low & high-so you can use the right setting to melt your foam and not burn the item.

I have had several Embossing guns that work well but do not last if you drop them they are done. Got mine at a craft store.

These are links to the heat guns I own. The Master is built better but does not get as hot as the Steinel. But the Master has better heat control, the Steinel just has high and low.
