  • thread breaks

I rarely get through a design w/o 2-3 thread breaks...this isn't normal, is it? I have searched the other posts...when I search I get so many unrelated topics, so I haven't found answers. I've changed density, needles, done oiling, checked presser foot, etc. But it is so frustrating to have to stop and fiddle w/this. Any suggestions?

p.s.-i have also done auto feed and tried different numbers on the standard feed, as well. It's inconsistent to me, really.

What is your auto feed number set at? Are you noticing thread breaks on things you have digitized or from someone else's work? What type of thread are you using? Do you have an XT or Big Red? Type of needle's?

If you don't think it is the machine, it coul be the humidity level in the room. It could also be dry thread. If the humidity is low, static can build causing random thread breaks. If you are running a heater, is it possible it is near a vent where the hot/warm air is hitting the machine/thread?

You may need to check the needles for burrs or nicks. Nicks can cause thread breaks too.

          Have a good day.

Thanks for the tips...the breaks are random, doesn't matter what design...could be a stock one or something I've done. I don't digitize many things, really. I use a mix of threads...ARC, Maderia mostly. I have an XT. The needles are the same ones that came w/the machine and I'm using ballpoint right now on nylon. Auto feed does it's own thing, I've tried standard on about 5 or 6. Still getting breaks. Changed needles. This has happened w/me from the beginning of my "career", about 3 years ago. I just don't know what I'm doing or enough about the settings to tweak them.

Thanks for all of the advice and suggestions...

              Cindy:

You said auto feed does it's own thing but when I first started out in 07' my auto feed would start at 0 and go up as usual and I would get thread breaks until I went in and set my start value at 3. Since then I don't have alot of thread breaks so you might want to look at increasing the start value on the auto feed to see if that helps you. I don't have my machine hooked up to my computer right now but I think it is under tools where you set that value.

Try that and I also make sure I use Poly thread and no Rayon as Rayon will break a ton in my machine.

              Good Luck!

Thank you! I'm still getting them randomly...I have noticed that a lot of them are after a trim, where it is being trimmed too close and the thread just pulls out of the needle before it even starts to stitch. Any idea on how to resolve that?

Have you checked to see what length of tail you are set at? Maybe try a different tail length..I remember someone else having the thread pull out of the needle after a trim as well. You might want to search the board to see what they did.

Thank you...where do I check for that? I'm still muddling through the various settings, but most of the time I use the default stuff b/c i don't really know what to do w/them.

I think it is under tools or where you click on the color assignments there is another area there that will let you assign properties to each thread you are using. Sorry can't remember exactly the verbiage as I don't have OS open tonight...I will look tomorrow and post if no one else has by then.
