  • how to use 1000M ARC spools

How do you use the 1000m spools on the machine? They do not fit on the white spool holders. Can some tell me how or maybe I am missing an application piece that lets me use these spools.

You have some cardboard paper disks that Melco supplied in your starter kit. Put one of these on the spindle first and the smaller cone on top of it. It creates a base for the small cone to sit on top of and helps prevent thread from dropping underneath the cone....

If you don't have the discs, grab a piece of thin cardboard (cereal box) and trace a can of soup-cut to this circle and push a pencil through the center to make a hole large enough to slide over the thread tube. Make a batch of these...very handy. Slide down the tube, put your small spool of thread on and push the tube down until it sticks up 3/4" or so above it-and thread the spool up. You're now set to go!

Melco knew this was an issue with big red in2002. I hope the next model machine can accept both 5000m and 1000m spools without buying or making an adapter.

It's not just the 1000 size spools-I got sample threads from Madeira that were just on cardboard tubes, that I was able to use with the disks.
