  • Color system and effects on object

    Dear List,
Using V9, I have a design that has some blending involved. Basically I have three layers of the same object each a different color. I used the effects button to vary the density and clicked in the blend box. This puts two colors of the same color in the project window. When the design is sent to OS it shows the right colors but doesn't stitch the right colors. Has anyone has this problem and is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks Margaret

I digitized a 3 color design. 3 very different colors, red, green, yellow. I very carefully told each needle what color the cone was. But when I loaded the design, one of the colors just didn't compute. The yellow just was not going the sew out on the yellow needle.

You really have to check manually that what is suposed to have happened with the assignment of needles, is indeed what happened. It is not a foolproof system.

Wow, it seems there are a lot of problems with V9. I just purchased it but didn't install it yet. After reading all these posts I'm really afraid to install it. I'm running V7 and never had any problem with colors.

Juli, have you reported this to Melco/Tech? I wonder if they will come out with corrections to all these problem. Please let us know anything you find out with Melco.

      Thank you,

      Maggie

        Dear Maggie,
V9 does have some problems and they are working on it. I know that sounds simple and like the pat answer everyone gives. This redo of the previous software versions like all big software packages have issues until they have it out in the public. We are really the people who find these things out. That is the reason we can still work with v7. I have talked to the engineers, not just the Melco help desk and they are trying to get as many of these fixed as possible. The last time I called they still did not have an update but was told they will release one soon. You might go to mymelcoworld.com and ask them questions just as another resource. I have been using V9 only and am finding ways to work around some things. I also write down when something happens and try to keep a log of the sequence. That will give Melco a clue as to what is causing the problem.

The software industry calls it DRIBBLEWARE. Rather than releasing a product that is completely bug free, they rush a release of software, and then rely on real users testing and reporting bugs - as they dribble out repairs.

If everyone is being honest here, this upgrade (being as major as it was) could have used another month or two in the beta stage - because as is being reported here - there are still many issues to be worked out.

The nice thing is, I really believe that when feature complete and bug free, v9 is a very nice upgrade in terms of features and sew quality improvements. Also, the live update feature for incremental upgrades is very much needed and welcome (rather than having to be sent discs each time).

I'd just wait till late spring/summer before upgrading or switching if I was an average user till the kinks are worked out - or if you do upgrade, keep both versions running and learn as you go.

Thank you Margaret and John for your thoughs.

I have a couple of questions for you guys:

I have a dedicated desktop PC for my Amaya OS and DS. I don't have any other software in this PC and is not connected to the internet. I have 2 Amayas (old red) and they are in a very good condition so I'm not planning to buy XT yet.
I was planning to buy a "laptop" and install only the DS-V9 so I can digitize when I'm away from home and use the old PC for OS only.

            1. How can I send the designs from laptop to desktop PC without using a memory stick when I'm at home?

            2. Can I install the DS-V9 on the laptop and leave the OS-V7 in the old PC connected to the Amayas so I don't have to worry about the new OS version?

Please forgive me if I sound ignorant. I need your expertise and I appreciate the help.

            Thank you,
            Maggie

You can install another NIC (network interface card) in the desktop and hook up with a hub or crossover cable to the laptop.

But I find I have not had to go to this extent.

It works fine to just run the Amaya and network through a hub.

              Have had no issues.

Though MELCO does not recomend this They do like to encourage you to Isolate their software as to prevent them from having to make it compatable.

                Jerome,

I have a 3M hub now connected to my desktop and the 2 Amayas. One port is available in the hub. Are you saying that I can connect another cable between the spare port and the Ethernet card of the laptop? What do I have to do in the laptop to send files to the desktop?

                Thank you for your response.

You should be able to Hook up a network cable to the hub from the laptop.
set the laptop or the share files and you should be able to access it via the network in the desktop.

                      Maggie,

I have DS on one computer and OS on another connected to 8 AMAYAS I just grab the files from the DS computer via the network to load them to the machines. If you load V9 DS you will need to save all the files as V7 to be able to load them in OS if you are still running V7 OS.
