  • stitches unraveling

I am open for any and all suggestions! I have done some megaphone outlines on some little cheerleading jackets, with the kids names in script across the megaphones. I used two sheets of cut away backing. I have had two returned to me because the stitches are just coming out. Is there a setting I need to change on my Design Shop Pro when I am designing?

    Chrissy,
Are you making sure you have tie-ins and tie-offs?

I went back and looked and tie-insand tie-offs is not checked. Should it always be checked? Some of the problems on the girls' jackets were not at the beginning or end of a run either. Some were.

How wide are your stitches? If they're too wide, it will be easy for them to get caught and pull out. You may want to either use the split satin stitch option or change your satin stitches to fill stitches.

What is the split satin stitch? Do I need to always mark the tie-ins and tie-offs on every design? Thanks for any help!!

I would say until you learn how to recognize whether a particular font has built-in tie-ins and/or tie-offs in them....then yes, add the TI's and TO's to your lettering. Better to have too many than none at all, altho doubling up on these can cause some issues at times too, like thread breaks.....True type fonts do not have any so it is always a safe bet to add them in.

Check in your "Help" section on how to "Convert Alphabets" and it will show you how to remove all existing TI's and/or TI's from the pre-digitized list, so you can then add your own style, if you wish.

For the split stitch, go to the column tab in properties. About halfway down is a box for Auto-split. It may only be available in DS Pro+. You can play with the settings. I kind of like the standard 70/4 split.

Thanks for responding Rod. The design that keeps unraveling is not alphabet. So what do I do about TI/TO for something that is not alphabet?

Thanks to all who are trying to help me out!!

                  Chrissy,

The same thing, to be safe until you learn how to look for built in TI's and TO's, add them. Also,, the stitch length for the #1 thru #5 styles found in the lock/trim tab, defaults at 4, change this to a 6 unless you have Ver 9 software. Ver 9 defaults to a 6 now.

AOS will filter short stitches out of designs and if a particular lock stitch has stitches too short, they may fall into the filtering process and disapear on you. So add them for now. A #1 style for the most part is probably what most folks use but I also use a #5 quite a lot too. Ver 9 software has a section where you can create your own lock stitches and save them for future use..

                    Chrissy,
If you file is in an OFM file format, you could do this yourself if you have the Design Shop or higher level. (not Design Shop Lite)
If you truly don't know what you are doing, in the interest of time, you may want to ask the person who digitized this for you to make the corrections.
If you pulled this design from a book, like Dakota Collectibles, then you would have to hire a digitizer to analize this for you and make appropriate changes.
