  • Split Front Tackle Twill

I do a lot of Tackle Twill but am getting ready to do my first split front. I am worried about the hooping of a split front jersey and/or jacket. Any suggestions on how to do this? I have had a lot of people asking for it but I have yet to have the guts to try it. Thanks in advance - I appreciate you all!

We had 60 zippered hoodies with a split front. We ordered the lettering set up from Stahls with a sew disc. We zipped up the hoodie and used the grey plastic hoop for jacket backs. Before hooping we wrapped the hood with sports tape but left the center section untaped. That part of the hoop has a bar on the outside so it's easy to find. That allowed enough room for the zipper. It worked very well for the hoodies.

Thank you. That makes sense but I am doing button down jerseys and the recommended option from stahls is the overlap (which means we can't button it, there has to be a space left in between where the buttons overlap from my understanding), I also searched the Stahls website and couldn't find any videos on how to do this. I am still researching and may have to go with block lettering so I can keep the jerseys buttoned for stability. Any other experience anyone would care to share? Thanks again!

If you are doing a split front on a button down jersey you will have to hoop it twice. If you place a horizontal chalk mark at the top and bottom of where the design will be and a vertical where they overlap you use those for reference. Then when you digitize the design, put a manual stitch in those 3 places on both halves of the design. When you trace you can line up the laser with those points so your design will match. That's a simplified version. Don't be afraid, it's not that hard.

Thanks so much Steve. Everything I have read so far has me pretty much terrified. So your post gives me some hope. I ordered a sample disc from Stahls so I could see how it works. I guess I just worried about lining everything up when hooping for the second time. Thanks again for your insight!
