Hi everyone. I have a simple outline that is pretty thick. The letters are JMAX on the X where it crosses there are stitches that go all the way across and look loose and stick up because the are so long. I have Design Shop pro plus however I am still very new to all of this and cannot figure out how to go in and change it. It is making me crazy! I have tried changing direction. Please help! Thanks to all in advance.

I can send you the file if you would like. If that would make it easier since I know it is hard to explain these things. Thanks!

I take it that you are using a font. If so change it to wireframe and see if that helps. If not do, what I do, retrace it using a column stitch.

To change it to wireframe, right click on the letter in the project window on the right, a window will open up. Select change (or it may say convert) to wireframe.

      Liz,

It sounds as if this is a lettering graphic that has been auto digitized or a complex column has been used to create the lettering. Either way the computer would have converted the graphic to a complex column the same way, if "Lettering" was selected in the auto digitize tools.

In short, we don't always like, in fact seldom, what or how the computer creates columns in lettering. Those long stitches are a classic example of this creating process. The lettering probably needs to be recreated using a column 1 manually. You did not say how large this lettering is or what font it might be....possibly it may be a font that is already digitized from the selection in your alphabets....

I looked at the file and could see the problem. I helped her with several suggestions. Tomorrow she will try to fix it. It is background only with the letters empty. the background/outline is all one complex satin column. Probably the auto split will work for her.

Thank you again Juli for all of your help. It was exactly what I needed. It is almost perfect. However I am getting a little bit of the underlay showing through in the center where it should be open. How do i reduce the underlay so it is not peeking out? I did not know which area specifically to modify in the underlay properties to fix this and still keep it looking dense and full. Thanks again to everyone. I do not know what I would do without this board!

Sometimes if you just shorten the stitch length of the underlay, it won't "cut corners". Or if it is just a place or two, just go in and manually pull those stitches in a little.

              Juli,
I've had that problem of the underlay "cutting corners" and showing also. I went in and manually moved those stitches well out of the way, saved the file, then did more adjusting or a sew out. Those "rogue" stitches show up again!!! Like I never moved them! Any thoughts??

              Much appreciation,

You said that you then went back in and did some more adjusting. That is probably where you got your previous manual stitch changes wiped out. That will always happen if you change the wire frame - all the manually edited stitches will be gone.
