  • How Do I embroider on Jeans

Hello everyone, and MERRY CHRISTMAS! I just have a quick question. Is there anyone out there that can give me info on how to hoop jeans and embroider on them. I don't have a cylindrical hoop I just have the hoops that came with my machine. Any help on needle type and size would be a tremendous help.

To embroider on the legs, open up the outside seam, lay flat, embroider, and stitch closed. OR, use the smaller hoops and wiggle it into place.

Is there a way to do this without opening a seam?

The easiest way is to use FastFrames with sticky stabilizer. You can get the FF from Melco -- check them out at fastframes.com.

Jeans open up wide enough around the waist that you can easily get a hoop down in the leg-but all I've seen for embroidery on jeans is either the butt (with or without pockets) or around the ankles.
Again, even the leg bottom allows you to get a hoop up in there with no problem. If you can use a hoop to sew on a tote bag pocket-you can hoop jeans from top or bottom!
If you have to sew ON a pocket-then you have to carefully slice the threads and remove the pocket, embroider it, then sew it back on. Just remember-if you have to do 'specialized' hooping for ANYTHING-you need to charge a 'hoop charge' to cover your time! Plus resewing pockets on-take it to a seamstress and find out what SHE charges-that's what you would pay if you can't do it yourself! (Like me...)

Oh...forgot to add-there is no 'cylindrical hoop'...your Amaya is a 'tubular' embroidery machine-because the 'snout' can stick 'into' a tube of material (teeshirt, pillowcase, shirt arm or pant leg) while a regular flat sewing machine without a removeable 'table' cannot do it.
ALL your hoops are 'tubular' even though they look flat. The only thing close to a 'cylindrical hoop' is the hat hoops, because they can rotate around for almost full circle sewing on a hat.
            Make sense yet?

Ok, thanks barb and signman, I have the fast frames but they are for my babylock 6 needle. I know that I cannot use them on my amaya unless I have a different thingy that will work for the amaya! can anyone tell me how much this will cost. The Fastframe website do not show this. I am gonna give this a try.

I'd give FastFrames a call tomorrow. They also sell clips to hold fabric tight when using the frames.
