  • Amaya OS Error Message

We just finished moving my "shop" down to our newly-finished basement and I started the Amaya computer for the first time (since the move). When I attempted to start the Amaya OS, I got an error message saying: (WSAStartup) Unable to start the winsock drivers.

Could some nice person tell me what that means???

Do I uninstall/reinstall the OS?? Or just buy the new computer I've been wanting since this one is kind of flaky.

    Thanks!

    Barb again ...

If I do buy a new computer, how much RAM do I need on a WinXP system?

    Thanks again,

I am not an expert on Amaya software, but worked as a programmer for years, so I reply from that background.

I recommend installing the maximum amount of RAM that your budget allows. RAM used to be prohibitally expensive, but is very inexpensive today. I believe it usually means an extra $85-$100 over what is usually offered in a base model computer.

Getting a new XP system is getting a bit more difficult. Nobody online has them that I know of, and Staples, Office Depot, and major retaillers don't either that I know of. We have a custom computer builder locally that can still do it, but they told me that they won't much longer. Good luck in your search.

        Is everyone on the cruise????

I re-installed WinXP on my computer and all is well again. I've escaped buying a new computer for now.

Barbara: My local Walmart still carries a window XP computer for about 300.00. not sure of the ram or any specs on the system but I know they have them in stock. Not sure how much longer though.

Dell will build you a new computer to spec with XP rather than vista if you have to get new

Right now I'm knocking on wood that the new WinXP install takes and this boat anchor wannabe keeps working for a long time. All I use it for is the Amaya and my Ioline cutter. I got my wireless network working again today so I'm a pretty happy camper.

                  Thanks for the notes,
