Help for newbie

I am new to this list and I just bought my Amaya XT, Design Shop Pro+ it’s a 2007. I am totally confused. I am a home sewer that used Viking Designer SE and felt it’s a pain with all the changing of thread so bought the best embroidery machine out there and haven’t a clue were to start. I ‘am not good with hooping in the first place but I am very intimidated by this machine. I bought it used so there isn’t training and I live in a remote area of Oregon. Would love to have someone in Medford or Klamath Fall teach me a few thing to get me started using this wonderful machine and tell me the best clamps to use fast or slim clamps or the hoops that came with the Amaya XT. I am very worried about getting things straight in the hoop. Mostly I will be using t shirts but would like to embroider carhart jackets for my husband’s business and hats would be great. Fran

If you call melco, there is a two disc set that goes over design shop and basic operation. Might be worth the money if you can't find an Amaya owner near to you that might be willing to let you sit in and ask questions for a few hours. The transition from home machine to commercial embroidery machine is a tough one - take it from someone who was there 4-5 years ago. Take your time, practice a lot - and don't expect things to work the same as what you were used to.

I am in the same situation, only did have the advantage of classes. I went from home to commercial machine in June and still cannot sew out on the XT as fast as I can on my home machine because of all the difficulty with thread breaks, and settings and maintainance. I have yet to sew one thing without at least 2 thread breaks.

So be patient and listen to the people who have been doing this awhile. They are great and fortunately love to help. I am convinced someone could make a million in training CDs and on line courses teaching newbys what the seasoned embroiders do automatically.

If you are ever in Medford look me up. I can probably give you some pointers. I have 3 XT's and 3 Big Reds and some other Melco and Tajima machines.
