  • Thread Breaks

I have a pattern that uses Rayon variegated thread. If I could get this thread in Poly, I would, but I can't. So I am stuck with Rayon. The fill starts on the outside and spirals in and then following the same path, spirals out. I am having a million thread breaks and my frustration level is way up there! I don't know what to do. I don't have this problem on other threads. I have changed the needle number thinking it is maybe just that particular needle - no change. It is breaking about every 20 or 30 stitches.

I have an XT with the presser foot setting at all the way down, but have tried it one up. I am doing a t-shirt with no-show iron stabilizer. I cut the speed down to 800 for this needle, but exactly the same thing - it didn't help even a little. Normal speed for the balance of the design is 1200. I am using auto actifeed.

Can anyone offer any suggestions at all? At the same time I am running this job (trying to run), I am doing hats of the same design on my Happy Voyager. The Rayon variegated is right on the seam and I have no thread breaks! It is time like these that I think having another Happy would be a very good idea, because even at a reduced speed, I'd get a lot more work done!

You might try turning auto-actifeed off and set the material feed at 2 or so.

Thank you Dorothy! That did it. Set the Actifeed to 3 and it is going strong! Now, the question is why didn't the actifeed work?

      I'm back in business.

Rayon thread is weaker than polyester thread. Maybe your particular spool isn't strong enough to withstand the variations of the acti-feed system?
This is one of the dynamic reasons why the standard option is still available in the software.
