  • Waterproofing Thread

I have a customer that wants to waterproof the embroidery on his jacket. Does anyone have any experience with that at all here?
He wants to know if it will change the color of the thread and/or the texture or if it will change the quality of the embroidery.
    Any input is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mary

It's not the embroidery thread he wants to waterproof...it's the holes in the jacket!
There are several different 'waterproofing' sprays available, but they will only coat the thread-NOT fill the holes you made with the needle in the jacket! If your design was 10,000 stitches, then you made 20,000 holes in the jacket...basic turned it into mosquito netting. You just can't see it because the thread hides the holes.
Unless you can get at the backside of the outer layer of the jacket and coat it with clear silicone gel mushed right into the backing-there isn't much you can do about it. That's why the bulk of your bikers have their 'colors' done on a leather like 'patch' that gets sewn on around the edges-less likely to let water come pouring through.
If there IS a product that can be used, I hope someone posts it!

I think you may have misunderstood my post. He is waterproofing his jacket to weatherproof it. He wants to know if the embroidery will be affected when he does that.
