Display & Stitch colors

Hi all,
I am having some difficulty with design shop. Basically I don't know enough to get on the right page....but my designs are not displaying as digitized and I don't know how to make the display reflect the colors in the design. What am I missing. I have to manually change the palette to get my designs to stitch right. I check the toggle and it is toggled to stitch colors but thats not happening? Help would be appreciated.....what page in my book covers this? I find palettes a bit confusing.

I think you are going to have to tell us more. Are these designs that your are digitizing yourself or or they designs that start out in another format? OFM is a format that carried color code, but all the other commercial formats do not.

As you as digitizing, you set your colors. Are you saying that you can't set the colors correctly? And don't forget, that no matter what the colors show, it is the needles you assign at the machine that is the real determiner.

Thanks Juli for responding. I can set the needles, but my design was done in a .exp file and the colors do not show on the screen as I need them for view/edit purposes. I have clicked load pallet and the colors change but not to the design colors. I am not familiar with design shop to make the colors reflect what I want in the view. At this point I am guessing and making the changes on the needle and that is time consuming. I am running patches and have a volume and would like to maximize my time. SORRY I'M A NEWBIE!

If I understand the issue it's really not a Designshop issue. It is more of a machine setting.
Everyone sets up their designs differently and also the thread tree on their machines are set with colors in different arrangments not to mention where you put a color that isn't in the standard mix that is now in the design and needs to be put on the machine. This is why even if you save the color settings with the digitized design it still needs to be set in the machine each time so that the machine knows that color "4" is red on needle "11" despite how it is represented in the digitizing. This might not be what you were talking about butif it is, once you open the design in the machine and then set the thread color list, you can re-save the design and as long as your threads locations haven't changed when you re-load the design, then the thread order that you entered will reload and be ready to go. But it is important to know what colors go where so you make sure the machine is threaded correctly.

EXP holds NO color information at all!! That is the problem. You have to have a written list to use when setting up the colors. That is what is so neat about OFM - it does have color info. So, the best thing would be to bring up your exp design in DS, change all the colors to the proper colors and then save in ofm. Sorry, but the is the reality of the life of us embroiderers.

This is all you need to do. You see the color squares at the bottom of the screen in DS? OK, put your cursor on the 1st color, then right click. The window will pop up where you can change the colors. Over on the right side, below the "rainbow" of colors there is a little window, put in the color number you want for the first one, that changes the 1st color. In the window where you can push the little arrow up, go to 2 (for 2nd color) do same thing. (i'm running out of space and I'm at my day job). or click on each little box at bottom of screen and repeat. When you have chaged each color, you will see on screen what you want.

One more note: When you right click on the color square, you get the pop up screen that has 3 tabs at the top. Click on Options and at the very bottom, make sure that box is checked. This will automatically increment the colors so that you don't have to click on the next color. Just a much faster way to get it done.
