  • Stabilizer for dishtowels

Do any of you have some advice on the best stabilizer for dishtowels? Tried a light tearaway, too light. Tried two layers, too hard to remove from tiny areas. Tried Heat-N-Gone, got it off the dishtowel onto the iron. (big mess) Next, i'm going to try Wet-N-Gone Fusible and wash the towels.
I'm doing Sunbonnet Sue designs on flour sacks in redwork. They sew nicely but the single line stitch makes a delicate design that won't stand a lot of pulling on to get the backing out.
    Any suggestions? Please.

You MIGHT get away with just using starch to stiffen it up a bit. Wouldn't hurt to try that. Just use spray starch and iron it in. You'll have to wash it out if you only do a spot, but you could do the whole thing using liquid starch and just re-iron it after embroidering.

You might try a tear/wash away backing or Vylene. Tear/wash away is basically a tear away, but the little bits go away in the wash. Vylene is a water soluable backing. I use it when making free standing lace, but have also used it when doing redwoork on tea towels like you are using. Both may be bought from Ziegler's Embroidery supply (be sure and get on their email list, they send special offers to their email list). I also bought Vylene from wendystreasures.com

We make a product called Fuse and Tear which is similar to Heat N Sta except we use a low melt 260F fusible so as not top shrink or scorch your fabric and to remove much easier

          http://www.lebowconsulting.com/stabilizer-reviews.htm - Fuse and Tear

(All the stabilizers that I developed like Heat N Sta are available elsewhere - through our other distributors)

Same Thing w Wet N gone = our Washaway
I did not invent the above product, however we did imptrove it w a little extra needle lubricants

Everyone on this list will also receive a 5-10% discount

Pls e-mail me off list for samples and info

          Sincerely
          Fred
