Tie offs

I am having mucho problems with trimming - rather, not trimming. It goes through all the motions, but doesn't accomplish the task. It has been suggested that the underlying problem is the type of tie-off. I am using Style #1 at present. Does anyone have any suggestion for another style?

And when I find that that has been the problem, I will want to set the new tie-off as the default. Been so long since I've done that that I can't remember how it's done. So, I need help with that too.

I really love all you guys (and gals) - What would we do without this forum??!!!

In design shop, click on properties. (As you know, this can be accessed from the menu running across the page, View/Properties; or if you click on the right hand side where you view the design element by element, you can right click on the project icon and select properties). Select Lock/Trim. The screen will come up to set the tie in/tie outs you wish. When I was in training, the instructor recommended tie in 1, and tie out 5. I set mine and have never fiddled with it, and have good luck with the relaibility.

The problem is really not so much the type of tie-off. What changing to a different style does is change the triangle of thread made when the machine is preparing to trim. I have also added a stitch to the tie-ff and had it work, sometimes it does not. I have found that relocating the trim or changing the thread direction a bit will work, although this is not 100%. I know of no technique that works perfectly all the time.
Go to DS. Element properties/lock-trim and use the radio buttons to change the parameters.

Style #4 seems to work well. Style #5 was just as bad as #1. I have left the tie in at Style #1. I have 12 t-shirts to go and then 25 polo shirts to do, so I am going to have a chance to really see if this makes a difference. So far, so good.

Hi Juli & fellow AMAYA nightowls,
I have never touched that screen but mine was at type 1 for both Tie-in & Tie-out. AT the top of that box where it say Lock, what do you have checked? Mine was, none. SHould I have Tie in and Tie out checked? Also the other option/question is do you Always want to lock or Only when necessary??? I think mine was greyed out because for the top Lock NONE was checked.
What is correct or best in your opinions?

We had trimming issues on things that had a trim and tie off already in the design.If you add a second trim and tie off not knowing that one was already there it screws up the timing and it won't trim.Now that we know what to look for our trimming issues have been reduced by 95% at least.I hope this makes sense.

I have a design that is made up of text created in DS and a turtle that was made in Generations. I would go ahead and make the turtle in DS, but DS just doesn't have the same kind of fills that Gen has, so I don't want to mess with it.

The text is Athletic Swoosh which I generally like a lot. It has, I presume because I can't see it on the screen, ties already. So I took out my ties and that did make things better. But now I am having lots of trouble with the trims in the turtle. It tries to trim, but fails to cut the thread. The Turtle has 5 color changes and if I am not there to manually cut the threads, it will mess up the design.

But, things change all the time. One place that seldom trims with start trimming. Places where I previously had no problem starts not trimming at all. In my logical mind, when things don't stay the same, that is a mechanical problem. There is some crit5ical adjustment that is barely not right. So, depending on some factor like the direction of the last stitch, it may or may not trim. It is not my job to figure this out!

If there are touchy critical things I am supposed to be doing, then I should be told about them. The trimmer is supposed to work every time! If it doesn't then it is an engineering problem.

OK, got that out. I am working myself up to calling the tech specialist.

Guys,
Although there can be a multitude of reasons for mis-trims,.....
If you believe that your lock stitches are causing you mis-trims and thread breaks, there's a chance that your lock stitches are too close together.
Using "Style #1", change your "width" from a 4 to a 6 and see if your situation improves.
