I am going to embroider on a Casket Panel for my Father in Law's funeral in a few days does anyone have any tips for me on what I should do or not to do?
Wow, Tina, you could do a bible verse or a message from the family. I would think about the family and the way they are remembering their loved one. Something they think he would like.
Good Luck on this! Is it satin?

Not sure if the panel is satin as I haven't gotten it from the funeral home yet but I have been told it will be either satin or a velour I believe.
We decided what is going on it but just needed some help on the other stuff like backing, needles, hooping etc..which I was able to get that information from another group I belong to...
It turned out good all they wanted was the praying cowboy so that is all I did but it did turn out good. You can check it out on my website as I put it in my gallery photos. It is at the bottom of that page. Here is the direct link for it:
Not sure on that part I guess maybe go in with a few samples and let them know you are able to turn them within 24-48 hours time and maybe stress you are local.
I was able to do this one because it being my Father in Law as the funeral homes can have the casket company do these as well but they use the designs from Dakota Collectibles.
Good Luck!
Viv,
If you are going to consider embroidering cap panels for your local funeral home(s), here's one thing to consider.
Funeral homes are never short on business. Which means that by the time you get the order, you'll need to have the completed order turned around in approximately 24 to 48 hours for them to have what they need in time for the funeral. Which means you will have a hard time taking a vacation.
You will probably not only need to do the embroidery but you will probably be asked to complete the entire cap panel from start to finish. These are made of nothing more than cardboard, a thin batting, the fabric to be embroidered on and some white duct tape and/or staples. The final size must be right on the money. You wouldn't want it falling out.
The funeral director might be interested in your services because in the last few years, funeral homes have been offering "custom services" for their customers. This is an excellent opportunity for you if this is up your alley. Remember the secret in being sucessful is finding your niche.

I must say putting the panel together was the hardest part as you need to make sure everything is centered and looks good then the duct tape is really sticky so it tends to stick to places you don't want it to stick. My husband actually had to help me put together the one I did for my Father in Law.
