  • Hoop burns?

    Good Morning!
When I was at class the instructor had something in a spray can that he sprayed on the hoop burn and wiped it off and the burn came right out. For the life of me I can't remember what it was! Any suggestions? Thanks,ck

On most fabrics we just grab the hem or sleeve and rub vigorously against the burn-and it comes right out. All the 'burn' is, is just compacted fibers. There is no damage or real 'burn'.
Also, the fastest way to get rid of it, and also flatten down any puckering, is a hand held steamer!
We got a nifty free one like a 'wand' from Oreck when my wife bought one of their vacuums-and with the short fiber 'head' on, it's perfect. Sits there and does nothing until you 'pump' it once or twice-so it's not 'burning' out of water when you aren't using it.

You can use just water too or water with a little vinegar in it works as well. We used to use sizing but just use water now.

I have always just kept a spray bottle of water handy, and for hoop marks I just spray and let dry....sometimes I press designs to achieve flatness, and some fabrics are better not being steamed, I've found, just pressed without the steam...like broadcloth, as steam seems to make it scrunch up more!

"magic sizing" is spray starch, fyi.
