  • Column Walk Stitch

Sometimes design shop adds a walk stitch in a column so that it can get to various parts of the element and finish in the desired location. However, I cannot find a way to set the stitch length of those "magic" stitches. When there is a tight curve they sometimes pop out of the column because (I assume) the stitch length is too big. Is there a way to set this value? Thanks.

    David,
There are a couple of ways you can change the walking stitch length. As you are digitizing a design you would go to the imput tool bar, right click on the walk normal stitch button and input the stitch length that you want. If it is a design that has already been done then go to the project level at the top of your project view, right click, go to properties and change it at the stitch tab. You can also do it at the element level in the project view. Likewise you might want to change it in the lettering properties. There are 2 places in lettering, the
stitch length on the lettering tab is for the stitch that DS creates to get from one point to another. The second is in the column tab, and this is for the walk stitch in your underlay.

If you go to the Help at the top of your page, go to Contents, Using Design Shop, Orientation, there is a little refresher course on the layout of DS. Thre are tabs & buttons that we don't use all the time and forget what they are for
    Hope this helps.

Thanks, Debbie. But the problem is with a complex column. When I bring a graphic into DesignShop, it seems to like to use complex columns. Consider making a "T" with a complex column. It has to use some walking stitches to get to at least one of the ends. I am looking for a way to set the stitch length in this case. Of course, I can redigitize manually to get what I want, but I was looking for a way to just change the properties in this stitch.

What version of DS are you using, David? When you set the stitch length at the project level or at the input tool that should set the stitch length for a graphic that you input, regardless what type of column you select to use when converting. I've tried importing and converting and mine isn't doing it. I've seen it with underlay for fills. Try changing the stitch type to column 1 as apposed to complex column and see if there is a difference. Also What size is the lettering and what stitch length are you using?

Never mind. I just called Melco tech support and was told that what I want does not exist. However, he was pretty certain that it would be in version 8 that should be out soon?
