  • winding my own bobbins

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone here winds their own bobbins? I want to try the free standing lace but would like matching bobbin thread. What bobbins would I use? I have Pfaff plastic and Janome plastic. I have one metal Bernina bobbin. Which one if any do you think would work? Also, do we turn off trimming when doing free standing lace? Is there anything else to take into consideration when doing the lace? Material thickness? Thanks for any info! Edna

Hi Edna. I don't know much about anything else....but I know you need size L bobbins. I have Juki sewing machines that use them, and they are available on eBay and on the web. I have some extras so if you don't need too many you can gimme a hollar. Judy

Hi, Edna. I've played around with Free Standing Lace (fsl). Used white bobbins. I did not digitize the designs myself, but used purchased designs. I noticed these designs are digitized with very minimal trims. If you are digitizing yourself, I would suggest digitizing for minimal trims. I turned Miss Amaya wayyyyy down in speed as a precaution, used 2 layers of vilene in the hoop and put my fabric thickness to 1. This was before I received my new s'wre with the auto thread feed. Next time I play, I will try auto feed.
