  • adding a true type font to DS Pro+

Someone wants a true type font which is not available in my Design Shop Pro +. Another embroider (not an Amaya user) sent me an email with the font as an attachment. Is it possible for me to download a new true type font to my software? Thanks in advance.

Any and all TTF that are installed in windows show up in DS. Just put the file in C:\Windows\Fonts and it will show up in DS. You might have to restart either DS and/or windows to have it take effect.

Shut down DesignShop and move the font into the fonts folder. Open DesignShop and it will be in the drop-down. No need to restart the computer.

Thank you so much. It worked like a charm! One other question. I have never sewn out a true type before (only embroidery fonts). Is there anything different about TTF or will they sew out just as great as the others. Thanks a bunch!

There are TTF and then there TTF. And all TTF are not created equal! Some are very good and some are very bad. Somme work at small sizes and some have to be big to work. So, you just have to evaluate each TTF on its own merits. I usually end up making them bold. Just my personal preference that I convince my customers is better than not bold.

Make sure you have tie/insandout if you are going to trim between letters. I usually set the underlay to edgewalk. For very small letters lighten up the density. For very large letters, satin stitch is likely not to work - try a reg fill.

I'm sure there is a whole bunch of other things, but this will get you started.

I need to put a name in script onto a linen hankie. What font does anyone suggest at a 0.5 or smaller size? What density, underlay, etc. should I use?

Thanks so much Juli. I will be using this for 1.10 inch names on the backs of baseball mesh jerseys. I appreciate all your suggestions and will make sure I do several practice sew outs. Thanks again!
